The Welsh Walk of Fame, which is the first National Walk of its kind in the UK, will honour the famous Sonís and Daughters of Wales including actors, singers, poets, sporting heroes, politicians and more.
The cultural attraction will be based in Cardiff Bay with the ideal location being Roald Dahl Plas, near to the recently unveiled Wales Millennium Centre. The project, which already has the full support of Cardiff Bay Harbour Authority is awaiting approval for funding from the Welsh national assembly.
The Walk will be launched with 30 specially designed plaques or stones . These will be laid in a lavish ceremony. Over the next 10 years, at least 50 more names will be added in additional induction ceremonies.
Councillor Nigel Howells, the councilís executive member for leisure, sport & culture, said: ìA Welsh National Walk of Fame could be a major new attraction, paying tribute to famous and distinguished Welsh men and womenî. He added, ìIt would help the area to attract tourists and provide interest for local communitiesî.
The star-studded walkway is expected to be laid next year on St. Davidís Day. More information and confirmation from the Assembly is due on the 23rd May 2005. |
